KUCHING: SUPP president Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian and some party leaders yesterday paid their respects to past leaders who died fighting imperialism and colonisation in the 1960s.

“Without their sacrifices, the party will not be where it is today. The party must not forget their sacrifices and this is also the history we must not forget.

“We also want to make sure the younger generation and SUPP members do not forget history,” Dr Sim told reporters after paying his respects to three party members who were laid to rest at the Hakka Cemetery, 5th Mile Jalan Penrissen here in conjunction with Chinese Tomb Festival or more commonly known as Qing Ming Jie.

The three party leaders who were buried at the cemetery were Choon Yong Hua, Ong Yan Ren and Lo Lian Chen.

Dr Sim pointed out many party members sacrificed themselves in support of the anti-imperialism and anti-colonisation campaigns decades ago.

“These were only a few we know. There were also others who fought hard for want of the independence to the extent that some even lost their lives in the struggle.”

SUPP deputy secretary general Sih Hua Tong and Youth chief Tan Ka were among the party leaders present to pay respect.

From the Hakka Cemetery, they proceeded to the Batu Kitang Anglican Cemetery to pay their respect to past presidents the late Tan Sri Ong Kee Hui and the late Tan Sri Stephen Yong.

They also visited Nirvana Memorial Park for the same commemorative gesture. It was said that some 800 party members were laid to rest at this memorial park.
