The teams await their turn to race.

KAPIT: The business community here has been asked to contribute to the powerboat race held in conjunction with the Baleh-Kapit Raft Safari.

Minister of Land Development Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing said  powerboat racing has become a well known water sport here.

“I’d like businessmen in Kapit to assist because they directly benefit when tourists come in. I think the Resident’s Office, who organises it, should ask from the businessmen because they directly gain, especially the shopkeepers,” he told the media.

Thousands thronged the Kapit Waterfront yesterday to watch the races.

The two-day competition involved four categories – 7hp Pump Engine, 18hp and below Tunnel Boat, 30hp and below Tunnel Boat and 50hp Tunnel Boat Open.
