KUCHING: Bodies of the two persons who drowned at Jangkar Waterfall, Lundu here were retrieved yesterday morning around 4am.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) state director Nor Hisham Mohamad confirmed this when met by reporters yesterday, saying that they had carried out an underwater search and rescue operation around 3am yesterday.

“We saw that visibility in the water was clear, enabling us to do an underwater search and rescue operation, so the Bomba personnel dived around 3am and they managed to retrieve the bodies an hour later, and earlier this morning we managed to bring the victims out from Jangkar,” Nor Hisham said.

The victims were believed to have drowned around 8pm on Sunday night.

Touching on the explosion that rocked residents of Block E, Sibu Jaya in Sibu, Nor Hisham stated that they had identified the real cause of the blast.

“Based on statements given by the witnesses, we managed to extract proof from the site of the incident pointing towards liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and we believe that the explosion was triggered due to an untightened tube connected to the kitchen and it caused an explosion when the victim switched on the light,” Nor Hisham said.

He added that there would be a meeting involving the relevant agencies, including the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and the Public Works Department, to determine when the residents could move back into the flats.

“They have not been moved back in yet, as we want to determine that during the meeting and when that has been determined, the relevant parties will take responsibility over the residents,” Nor Hisham said.
