Hakka leader calling on Chinese to stay united

KUCHING: Sarawak Hakka Community Association (SHCA) president Ku Fut Po said the Chinese should stay united to fight for their interests and welfare.

He said this at the association’s dinner here on Sunday after the tomb sweeping ceremony.

He described the Chinese community as ‘not that united’ compare to other races like the Bidayuh. He said their unity prompted the government to provide them more funds and they were also being taken care of better.

He said the struggle for the better welfare of the Chinese community will be continued by the next generation who are young and energetic.

Ku also reminded the young people not to forget their roots and to appreciate and remember their ancestors’ contributions and sacrifice to give them a better life today.

According to him, tomb sweeping was an annual event and association members were divided into two groups that visited the cemeteries located at fifth mile and 14th mile.

He encouraged youngsters to carry on such tradition and promote the Chinese culture and values.
