SRI AMAN: Locals are voicing their unhappiness over a jetty at the end of Batang Lupar Waterfront near Fort Alice here, which is rarely maintained and gets all muddied up after the high tide.

The structure, which was built four years ago, serves as the dock for longhouse residents who travel to here via Batang Lupar.

Moreover, the townsfolk claim that the structure is only cleaned prior to festivities such as the annual Tidal Bore Festival (Pesta Benak).

“Sometimes the mud along the trail leading to the jetty can be as thick as two feet (0.6m). It is never cleaned unless there is a celebration,” a local resident complained.

Even more worrying is that the narrow metal ladder which boat passengers use to get onto the jetty, has no handrail.

“This is very dangerous, especially for children.

As such, the locals are urging relevant authorities to take proper action with regard to this particular public facility.
