LUNDU: The state will build a matriculation college and a Yayasan Sarawak technical college in Lundu district, announced Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

Costing about RM200 million, he said the two colleges would be sited at the junction of Lundu Road and ferry point. Another mega project in the district, he announced, would be the construction of RM100-million Jalan Sematan-Telok Melano, which is part of the Pan-Borneo Highway, with the laying of foundation stone to be carried out in September this year.

“Before, when I was an ordinary elected representative, you (people in Lundu) only enjoyed RM10,000, RM20,000, RM30,000 worth of projects, when I was a minister the projects were worth between RM100,000 and RM400,000, and now that I am the Chief Minister the projects are worth between RM1 million and RM4 million.”

“And this (projects) is to reciprocate you all and your prizes for the strong support given to me all this while,” Adenan pointed out, adding that promises have to be fulfilled.

Adenan made the announcement at the Leader-Meet-the-People Session at the community hall here yesterday.

He mentioned that other projects would be the upgrading and renovation of Lundu Community Hall (RM10 million), upgrading of the district mosque (RM3 million) and RM1 million grant each for Lembaga Pengurusun Sekolah Chung Hua Lundu and Parents-Teachers Association of SRK Bumiputera Lundu.

“All the projects are to start this year,” he assured.

Adenan, who is Tanjong Datu assemblyman, also presented 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) to 1,100 recipients and minor rural project (MRP) grants to 92 organisations.

Meanwhile, Kuching Resident Shukarmin Chasemon said the people were able to enjoy many good things like the reduction of electricity tariff since Adenan became chief minister.

He believed that Adenan was still working hard on how to help the people.

Adenan’s wife Datin Patinggi Datu Jamilah Anu, Assistant Land Development Minister Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz and Opar assemblyman Ranum Mina were also present.

More than 2,000 people attended the event.
