‘Sada Borneo’ not able to perform at Miri City Day concert

MIRI: The desire of Miri City Council (MCC) to have ‘Sada Borneo’, a participant of Asia’s Got Talent show, perform at the Miri City Day concert on May 16 at Miri City Fan is unlikely to be fulfilled as the Malaysian five-piece band is busy with preparations for the next round of the reality show in Singapore.

Miri mayor Lawrence Lai said it would be an honour if the band could perform during the concert, which is held in conjunction with the city’s 10th anniversary.

“The council managed to keep in touch with them and unfortunately they are not able to make it due to the preparation commitment for the next round of the show,” he told the media during a joint press conference on Sarawakiana Carnival 2015 yesterday.

Despite that, Lai said the council intended to invite the band to perform during the council’s future concerts.

Replying to a question of what was special about Sada Borneo, he said the band caught the attention of the council when they performed traditional music of Sarawak during the show.

“The council is proud of the band which has put sape music on the world map.

“Here, we want to share with people in Miri the uniqueness we have which are actually precious and priceless heritage assets. Thus, there is a need for the young generation to preserve these assets by giving a creative touch to the heritage for tourism purpose.”

In view of that, the council, he said, would give its fullest support to the organising of any cultural programme and preservation of culture in the city.

He further said Sarawakiana Carnival 2015 to be held from May 8 to 10 is a good platform to promote the diversity of ethnic culture and heritage in the state.

“Apart from the beauty of nature, the culture and heritage of our ethnic races are the most saleable products for the tourism industry.”
