KUCHING: There are many shows and activities lined up at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) this weekend in conjunction with the ‘Sarawak Timber and SME Expo.’

Be awed by a special ‘Bamboo Fashion Show’ put together by Ziboosa, a local Malaysian brand focusing on activewear clothing made from bamboo.

According to its managing director Shazila Ghazi, clothes made of bamboo are eco-friendlier compared to other fabrics.

“It’s soft, breathable, cool, dries faster and absorbs sweat, which is why it’s best made into activewear, for both men and women. Our products are designed and produced locally.

“Besides activewear, we also produce headbands, shawls, towels as well as some household items and gifts,” she told The Borneo Post.

Shazila said this was the first time the Kuala Lumpur-based brand was brought to Sarawak.

“We work closely with Malaysian Timber Industry Board. They are the one who connected us to the STIDC (Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation)here.

“Hopefully through this expo, we would be able to partner with local resellers or distributors to bring Ziboosa products to Sarawak,” she said. The Ziboosa Bamboo Fashion Show is happening at 3pm today and tomorrow.

Also in the line-up is the remarkable talent of twin brothers Mohd Syazwan and Mohd Syazrul, who make up the ventriloquist-comedian duo Wan Rul Magic Puppet.

Hailing from Labuan, the brothers have more than five years of experience in performing ventriloquist acts and were winners in a few competitions. They are also talented singers. The duo will be performing at 1.30pm today and tomorrow

Other activities include talks by various exhibitors, angklung (a type of musical instrument made of bamboo) performances, cooking demonstrations, beauty demonstrations, Jenga games and lucky draws. The expo opens from 10am to 6pm.
