RIYADH: Malaysia recognises Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi’s government and supports the efforts of the international community in maintaining unity and freedom in the Arab country, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

Saudi Arabia News Agency (WAS) reported that Hishammuddin said this during a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Second Deputy Prime Minister Prince Mohammed Nayef Abdul Aziz here on Thursday.

Prince Mohammed Nayef is also Minister of the Interior and Deputy Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia.

“Malaysia supports all measures by the Saudi Arabian government to protect its borders, security and sovereignty,” the news agency quoted him as saying, referring to the military measures taken by the government of Saudi Arabia against Houthi rebels in Yemen.

According to the report, Hishammuddin also urged all parties in Yemen to comply with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2216 on Yemen, which calls on the Houthis to end violence, withdraw forces from areas they have seized and relinquish all arms.

Hishammudin, who arrived in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, also thanked the Saudi Arabian government for their help in evacuating Malaysians from Yemen.
