KUCHING: State Social Security Organisation (Socso) director John Riba Marin has been appointed one of its deputy chief executive officers (CEOs).

The appointment, which comes with immediate effect, makes him the first Sarawakian to hold such a high post in the organisation.

Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot, who made the announcement yesterday, also mentioned the appointment of Datuk Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed as CEO, replacing Datuk K Selvarajah who has retired.

“Here this morning I want to congratulate the state Socso director John Riba for he has been promoted as one of the three deputy CEOs in Socso. The other two are Samihah Md Razi and Mohd Rosdi Mat Yasin,” he told the media after live interviews over RTM Sarawak’s Wai FM Bidayuh, Red FM and Sarawak FM radio channels.

Riba, 50, said the promotion was a great honour for him and the state as a whole.

“So I want to take this opportunity to thank the government and leaders for the trust that they have in me, particularly Datuk Seri (Richard Riot). On my part, I will try to deliver my very best in order not to disappoint them, especially to create greater awareness among the people in Sarawak of Socso and the benefits it can offer. I am not saying that there is no awareness at all but what we want is for it to be even better,” he said.

The father of three from Kampung Stenggang, Bau obtained his Master of Business Administration from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in 2003. He has served as state Socso director for four years.
