No Suluks posing as Rela members – Junaidi

SIBUTI: Deputy Home Minister Dato Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar yesterday denied that Suluks were impersonating members of the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) to gauge information on activities and operations carried out by enforcement agencies.

“I have instructed for mandatory screening to ensure that are no foreigners posing as members of Rela to hide their identity,” he said here yesterday after the launch of the National Blue Ocean Strategy at Rumah Johnson Jangu, Seloi Tengah about 48 kilometres from Miri city.

“At the moment, we deny any such activity. Rela members must be Malaysians and not foreigners,” he stressed.

The deputy minister believed that some Suluks had fled and went into hiding in Miri, particularly in Kuala Baram, after the Lahad Datu incident.

“We want to make sure that we will deport them, including other illegal immigrants, before this problem escalates. As such, we will intensify our operations with the help from other agencies and bodies such as the Land and Survey Department, Sarawak Energy and Miri City Council,” he added.

A committee has been formed and is to report to Wan Junaidi every Friday for further action regarding this.
