KUCHING: Youths are advised not to get involved with negative elements that can destroy their lives and also not to smoke or take drugs, for the good of their

health.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem gave this reminder to 40 youths who made an unofficial courtesy call on him at his residence in Santubong yesterday.

“Cigarettes and drugs are not good for our young people. Focus on getting good education in order to become someone important in society in future. Make your parents and family proud,” he told the youths.

The youths who came from various places in Sarawak were participants of a two-day Culture Volunteerism Workshop – NBOS 1 Voluntourism Culture & Heritage at Camp Permai on April 17 an 18.

They were led by chief political secretary to the chief minister, Abdullah Saidol, who earlier officiated at the closing ceremony of the programme which was organised by the state’s National Culture and Arts Department.

During the 30-minute visit, the visitors had a memorable time chatting with the chief minister  and his wife Datin Patinggi Dato Jamilah Anu.

The chief minister also told his young audience to take up a hobby to keep them preoccupied and also prevent them from being involved in social ills.

Adenan later pledged RM10,000 to run a similar programme to be held outside Kuching.

Director of National Culture and Arts Department Salehhudin Md Salleh and assistant director of the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture Marahaini Marikan were also present during the visit.
