KUCHING: Today’s State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting seeks the passing of the Forests Bill, 2015 and the answering of 60 questions raised by various elected representatives.

The Forests Bill, 2015 is one of the three Bills which will be tabled in the afternoon but DUN only schedules for the passing of the Forests Bill today as the Bill aims to enhance forest conservation effort in the state by empowering forest officers and increasing penalty for forest offences.

The other two bills — the Supplementary Supply (2014) Bill, 2015 and the Supplementary Supply (2015) Bill will be tabled by Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh while Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan will table the Forests Bill, 2015 which seeks to replace the present Forests Ordinance.

In the morning, there will be a Question and Answer Session, during which questions submitted by state assemblymen will be answered by relevant ministers in charge.

Though the DUN secretariat has allocated 60 questions to be raised, from past experience, on average only 15 of them get to be answered verbally due to time constraint. Questions not answered will be replied in writing by relevant ministries or agencies.

Out of the 60 questions, most will go to the Chief Minister’s Office followed by Public Utilities Ministry and the Infrastructure Development and Communications Ministry.

All eyes will be on the motion moved by Baru Bian (PKR-Ba Kelalan) for the state assembly to make its official stance on the implementation of hudud law in the state and another motion moved by See Chee How (PKR-Batu Lintang) on the proposed sale of state-owned Safoca Sdn Bhd to Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd.
