BUKIT MERTAJAM: The choice of Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Permatang Pauh by-election was made based on the needs of the local population.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said this after announcing that Permatang Pauh Umno division secretary Suhaimi Sabudin was chosen as the BN candidate for the by-election.

“Suhaimi Sabudin is the most suitable candidate as he is young, highly educated, involved in business and has served the party for sometime.

“Moreover, he is well know in Permatang Pauh as he is local as requested by the residents,” he told a press conference after the announcement here, yesterday.

Muhyiddin, who is also BN deputy chairman, said Permatang Pauh requires a lot of development as it had been neglected over the past few years.

“The future of voters in Permatang Pauh has to be championed, especially in economics, health, education, job opportunities and cost of living.

“If the BN candidate is elected in Permatang Pauh by-election, we will implement a proper development in this parliamentary constituency.

“We pledge to give moral and material support to the elected representative so that he can be more effective,” he added.

Asked about the spat among Pakatan Rakyat leaders, he said it was their own problem and the people should judge them on what was happening. — Bernama
