Samarahan police cadets state camp champs

BINTULU: The Samarahan contingent has won the overall champion’s title for the state-level Police Cadet Corps Camp for Secondary Schools.

In second and third place are the Kuching and Betong contingents. The five-day camp here, which ended on Wednesday, involved 292 cadets from throughout the state.

Crime Prevention and Community Safety Sarawak chief SAC Burhanuddin Abd Majid officiated at the closing ceremony on behalf of state police commissioner DCP Datuk Seri Muhammad Sabtu Osman.

“They have been undergoing real training sessions to improve self-discipline, friendship and also to further enhance inner strength, self-esteem and confidence in their own abilities,” he said. He called for more active community participation in assisting the police with crime prevention.

“One of the ways is through community policing. I want to make it clear that there is no fee to join this community and all are invited to be a part of it,” he said.

“Let’s work together to reduce the crime index in the state.”

Betong won the marching team event, while Kuching and Sarikei were second and third respectively. The top three for the individual (male) category were Wan Mohd Fikri Wan Hassan (Mukah), Shahlan Bahaudin (Sibu) and Muhd Hazzanif Hamid (Kuching), while for the female category, the top three were Audrie Partie (Kuching), Lydia Smith Stephen (Samarahan) and Viviana Eva Lassan (Kapit).

For the Colt M16 rifle male team shooting event, Betong was first followed by Limbang and Bintulu; while for the female category, Limbang, Samarahan and Sarikei were first to third.

For the male individual event, Mohd Firdaus (Bintulu), Mohd Hidayat (Sri Aman) and Samion Kamis (Limbang) were the top three; while Jessica Owen (Samarahan), Siti Nur Syariqah (Sarikei) and Aida Aisyhah (Limbang) were the top three female sharpshooters.

Kapit, Kuching and Samarahan were the top three for the male ‘Jalan Lasak’ event, while the top three for the female event were Kapit, Sri Aman and Samarahan.

Bintulu won the obstacle crossing for both the male and female categories, while Kapit and Betong were second and third for the former while Limbang and Kapit were second and third for the latter.

In the patrol navigation male event, the top three were Samarahan, Kuching and Sibu; while for the female category the winners were Kuching, Limbang and Betong.
