School project yet to start despite 9MP nod — Kedup rep

MARTIN BEN (BN-Kedup) yesterday highlighted the need for a new SMK Serian II,  approved under the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP).

He said although land acquisition and compensation had been commissioned, the project had yet to commence.

According to him, it was not the first time the matter was raised at the sitting and thus he hoped that the government would give serious attention to the issue.

“While the area (Serian) needs a new school, it is also equally important that the present school be improved,” he said.

Martin said he had been frequently asked by the people there about the status of the new school.

On this, he hoped that the new school could be implemented under the 11MP, adding that the current SMK Serian – built in 1964 – is congested and in dilapidated condition.

“It has about 2, 500 students now (at SMK Serian) with the number  growing, it is only fitting that a new school be built,” he said.

Martin also told the august House that Serian’s elevation as the state’s 12th division would further boost development in that area.

Serian’s new status as the state’s 12th division was announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem during Pesta Birumuh on April 11.
