KAPIT: SK Kampung Baru team played well to defeat 16 teams to win this year’s Datuk Kristoffer Nyuak Bajok Inter-Team Futsal Invitation Challenge Cup.

The team walked away with RM800 cash, a challenge trophy and medals presented by Nyuak who officiated at the closing ceremony on Sunday evening at the Bletih Stadium here.

In second place was SK Methodist, who received RM600, a trophy and medals.

Chiang Chuan Youth came in third place to receive RM400, a trophy and medals while PDRM (police team) only managed to finish in fourth place.

The futsal challenge, held since Friday evening at Bletih Stadium, was sponsored by Nyuak, who is Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) supreme council member.

A total of 17 teams took part in the competition.

Among them were schools, government departments, youth and sports clubs here.

In his remark, Nyuak pledged his continued support to youth organisations here in organising social or sport activities that promote healthy lifestyle, unity and harmony among the people of great diversity and culture in Kapit.

He hoped more youth and sports clubs would participate in the competition next year, saying positive values like teamwork and discipline could be inculcated among the youngsters through healthy competitions like games.

“It’s important to organise more activities to engage youth participation to deter them from social vices. When they are involved in healthy activities, they have the right attitude and discipline to take care of themselves and do better in future,” he said.
