SARIKEI: Some 3,000 people flooded the Padang Sukan Kementerian Pembangunan Sosial to witness the Autoshow and Gathering Vol II Programme yesterday.

The programme organised by Pertubuhan Belia Kebangsaan Bersatu (Saberkas) Belawai in collaboration with Sarikei Old Skool and Kaki Lowered was held in conjunction with 2015 Borneo Pineapple and Fruits Festival.

It showcased various types of cars and involved more than 200 participants throughout the state.

Vice chairman of Belawai Saberkas, Zaidi Nasar, said the good response showed that the programme received great support from the youth.

“This programme had achieved its goal; we had gathered the people together especially car lovers and we had created something different this year in this programme compared to the previous years.

“On behalf of Saberkas Belawai I thank Sarikei Old Skool and Kaki Lowered for making this programme a success,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sarikei Old Skool chairman Halik Azrul Omar said participants came from Sibu, Bintulu, Miri and Kuching.

He said the programme was organised following the success of a similar event they did in February.

“In the first Autoshow and Gathering, we had a very encouraging response. We did not expect to receive such an overwhelming turnout. I think this success will encourage us to organise the programme at a bigger scale in the future,” he said.

The programme also received support from Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Promotion of Technical Education) and Assistant Minister of Environment Datu Len Talif Salleh.

Others present at the event included Sarikei Resident Dahim Nadot and Sarikei Kaki Lowered chairman Andy Chieng.
