SIBU: Defending champion Sibu Magna lifted the Bernard Ting-Allan Richard Wan-Moh Ung Bing Rugby Memorial Cup after overpowering Sibu Agensi 29-14 at the final held at SMK Sacred Heart last weekend.

They led 24-0 by the end of the first half with four tries and two conversions.

Agensi staged a fight back in the second half and scored two tries and two conversions to narrow the gap to 24-14.

But Magna’s Wong Kee Hoon bulldozed his way for a touchdown in the final minute of play.

Mukah beat Kolej Vokasional A team 17-5 to become Plate champion while the Bowl champion was Teachers which thrashed Sacred Heart School A team 40-0.

En route to the final, Magna had beaten Teachers 27-5 while Agensi overcame Mukah 26-12.

The two other teams in the tournament were Sacred Heart School B and Kolej Vokasional B.

The cup was organised by Sibu Division Rugby Union (SDRU) as a tribute to three former SDRU players who had a great passion for the sport before their untimely demise.

SDRU chief coach Michael Ting said that teams from outside the central zone would be invited for the next edition of the championship.
