Jobless man charged with trafficking drug

KUCHING: A jobless man was charged in a magistrates’ court here yesterday for trafficking 1,592 grams of MDMA (Ecstasy).

No plea was taken from Pang Choo, 40, when he appeared before Magistrate Ahmad Dzulfadzli Hamdan.

He was allegedly found in possession of the drug during a raid on his house at Lorong Kapur, Jalan Sungai Maong here on April 23 around 4pm.

The offence is framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death penalty.

He is also facing an additional five charges – possessing 20.6 grams of Methamphetamine under Section 39A (2) of the same Act; 37 grams of MDMA, 13.199 grams of MDMA, 1.889 grams of Ketamine and 15.14 grams of Nimetazepam (Erimin) framed under Section 12(2) of the same Act.

The court fixed June 5 for further mention of the case.

It was reported that the drugs were found inside instant coffee sachets.

Meanwhile, Pang’s wife, who is an Indonesian, was also charged yesterday for possession of 0.74 grams of Methamphetamine.

Yuliana Yulita, 33, was allegedly in possession of the drug when arrested by the police together with her husband.

Her charge comes under Section 12(2) of the same Act. No plea was taken.

The drugs were reportedly found hidden in her private parts.

Defence counsel Lim Lian Kee represented the couple while DPP Samira Khalili and Inspector Ahmad Ilias prosecuted.
