KUCHING: A youth survived but was badly hurt after being dragged underneath a car following a road accident along Mile 8 Kuching-Serian Road here on Thursday.

The incident happened around 11.30pm when a motorcycle ridden by the 20- year-old was rammed from behind by a car driven by a woman as he wasapproaching a traffic light intersection.

He fell in front of the car and was dragged for several metres as the woman continued driving and turned into Jalan Muara Tuang. She only stopped after a motorist, who witnessed the incident, overtook her and indicated that there was someone trapped beneath her car.

Several other motorists also stopped to help the trapped youth. They freed him after about 30 minutes by jacking up the car and gently pulling him out. The victim, from Kampung Bayur in Padawan, was later sent to the Sarawak General Hospital where he was admitted for a suspected fractured leg and various wounds to his body and head.

Separately, a five-car collision at Jalan Tabuan yesterday afternoon caused two of the vehicles to overturn. There were no injuries.

The vehicles were travelling towards Chonglin Park around 1.30pm following a mid-day downpour when one driver was said to have lost control that caused a chain collision resulting in a Toyota Unser and a Toyota Land Cruiser to overturn. The affected vehicles were later towed away while the respective owners lodged police reports.
