MIRI: The people in Baram, especially those who will be affected by the proposed Baram Dam, have been advised not to oppose development plans that would benefit them.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said following Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem’s announcement on Saturday that work on the dam would proceed, the people must now stand united to ensure the success of the project.

“Let us all work together for the betterment of the people. The government is sincere in wanting to bring change to our people.

“We must trust our chief minister. He is genuine in wanting to help elevate the living standard of the people in Baram through the implementation of this dam.”

Dennis added that the government had strategic development plans for Baram, and central to it was the Baram Dam.

“If we do not start and do something now, then how are our children going to live and work in Baram in years to come?”

Dennis said it saddened him that until today Baram was still barren of any development.

“What makes me sad is that when there is no development in Baram, we tend to blame the government for not doing anything for us. But, ironically, when the government wants to build the dam and bring in development, some objected it.”
