KUCHING: Yayasan Sarawak started its 44th anniversary celebration with a carnival for the public at its headquarters in Jalan Sultan Tengah yesterday.

According to Yayasan Sarawak director Datuk Abu Bakar Marzuki, yesterday’s event was among the first of a series to be run in conjunction with its anniversary in other cities and towns in the state soon.

“Today’s event is part of our effort to approach the public and enlighten them on services provided by Yayasan Sarawak,” said Abu Bakar when met by thesundaypost.

“It is my wish that through this series of carnivals, the people of Sarawak will know of our functions and how we contribute to the development of Sarawak,” he added.

Abu Bakar said he expected a crowd of more than 1,000.

Among the highlights at the carnival yesterday were an Under-12 football tournament, an exhibition on educational assistance, drawing and colouring contest for pre-schoolers, motivational talk for students and parents, and an information counter.

Booths put up saw the charity sale of items and food and beverages, several booths were manned by higher learning institutions and a meet-the-fans session with several Sarawak Super League team footballers.

Pre-schoolers focused on their colouring sketch in the contest.
