Annual ‘Pesta Bebulang’ to be held at national level

KUCHING: Bisaya Association of Sarawak (PBS) will be organising the ‘Pesta Bebulang’ at the PBS field, Batu Danau, Limbang on June 5 to 7.

This annual festival, showcasing the uniqueness of the state’s Bisaya community, has been held since 2004 and will be held at the national level for the first time this year.

The theme is ‘Sagano, Sarunding dan Sapanau’. The festival will instil an appreciation of the Bisaya culture, its traditional games, and inculcate a spirit of cooperation and unity among the people of
Limbang.

Pesta Bebulang, already listed in the Sarawak tourism calendar, is now included in the national tourism calendar under the Tourism and Culture Ministry.

Visitors will have a taste of traditional Bisaya games. There will also be performances by the Limbang Bisaya group, Sabah United Bisaya Association, Sang Jati Dusun Brunei, and the local Iban, Chinese and Malay communities.

According to PBS chairman Antonio Kahti Galis, during a press conference recently, they are expecting around 10,000 visitors.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem is expected to officially launch the festival.
