KUCHING: SK Dominic Pichin’s efforts to upgrade the school received a further RM250,000 boost from the state government yesterday.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem handed over the money to headmaster Marcos Nyandang, who received it on behalf of the school’s management board, at Wisma Bapa Malaysia yesterday.

Last March, the state government chipped in RM50,000.

SK Dominic Pichin, established in 1955, started its upgrading project in 2009 to meet the needs of the growing community at Pichin, Serian.

It currently has 161 students, 16 teachers and five support staff.

Marcos said from 2009 to 2013, the Ministry of Education allocated about RM1.4 million towards the development project.

“So, in total, we have received about RM1.7 million since 2009.

“The funds are being used to build two new school blocks with three classrooms each, one block for pre-school, science and computer labs, upgrading of the administrative block and teacher’s office, building an open-concept hall, and a three-star toilet,” Marcos told reporters covering the courtesy call.

Marcos, who is also Sarawak Headmasters Council chairman, added that the two school blocks were currently 40 per cent completed.

At present, SK Dominic has a double-storey block with eight classrooms.

This mission school will celebrate its 60 years anniversary this coming July 4.
