KUCHING: Deputy Home Minister Dato Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has expressed his support towards the call made by PBB Youth calling for the abolishment of the Tun Salahuddin bridge toll.

“Sarawakians do not want any tolls, everyone here agree on the total abolishment of tolls in the state,” said Wan Junaidi to reporters during a Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant handing-over ceremony at Grand Margherita on Friday night.

The abolishment of the Tun Salahuddin bridge toll could expand development in the area and lighten the burden of the people living in the surrounding areas.

The government, he admitted, is also facing constraints to expand and build trunk roads for the villagers to enter and exit Boyan, Gersik and Sourabaya effectively.

On another note, he was fully confident that the state government would be able to hold a discussion with its concessionaire Zecon Berhad on the toll abolition.

Meanwhile, PBB Youth had recently released their statement claiming that Zecon Berhad had in fact recovered their overhead expenses for the construction of the Tun Salahuddin bridge through toll collections.

PBB Youth also said Zecon Berhad should emulate the concessionaire of the Lanang Bridge who has agreed to abolish the toll in Sibu.
