MIRI: Two men with previous police records were arrested after they were involved in an accident near E-Mart Commercial Centre here on Monday night.

In the 8.30pm incident, the two were travelling in a car with another man when they lost control of it and crashed into the roadside.

Several members of the public saw the incident and immediately called police.

“However, the reason they contacted us was not because they wanted to help the three; some of them recognised the car as that reported missing on June 4.

“One of the suspects was injured. However, we managed to book two (of them) as the other suspect managed to escape,” a police spokesperson said, adding that the injured man was first taken to Miri Hospital before being sent to the lock-up with his partner.

“Previous records show that the two were suspects of a string of vehicle theft cases, as well as drug abuse,” police spokesperson said.

The two are being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code, while the hunt one for the other suspect is ongoing.
