PWD: Murky water due to inconsistent supply of raw water

KUCHING: The Public Works Department (JKR) in Bintulu will continue to carry out routine flushing work to the distribution system and cleaning of high level reservoirs to improve the quality of water.

The department, in response to The Borneo Post’s article (‘Sg Asap folk fuming over incessant dirty water’) dated June 9, said the recent water issue in Sg Asap was caused by the inconsistent supply of raw water that resulted in the Riverbank Filtration (RBF) automatically stopping operation at 10am on June 6.

Upon receiving the report of the interruption, JKR Bintulu immediately carried out the de-silting works. The work was completed around 3pm the same day while consumers in low areas of Sungai Asap started to get water supply in the late evening.

However, the sediment (murky water) from the high level reservoir was drawn into consumers’ taps during the whole duration of the RBF stoppage.

“JKR Bintulu will continue carrying out routine flushing work to the distribution system and cleaning of high level reservoir to further improve the water quality,” the statement added.
