BINTULU: Every level of leadership in any organisation or institution is important and must function properly.

Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Electricity and Telecommunications) Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi said leaders at the grassroots level also played a crucial role what more to say those at the top leadership.

“Don’t assume that only the top leadership is responsible in doing everything,” he said.He cited the upgrade of Sebauh sub-district into a full district effective August 1 this year as proof of how good the leadership was in the district.

“With high quality leadership, the government will be able to see the area’s potential so that action could be taken to further develop the particular area. Bintulu has huge potential which continues to attract investors in creating jobs and business opportunities,” he said. The Kemena assemblyman however said that development would not come easy. It came with a price and there would be some side effects in the process.

“That is why we need to carefully monitor and coordinate the development process in Bintulu,” he said after distributing RM465,900 minor rural project (MRP) to 36 organisations under the Kemena constituency at the Resident’s office here yesterday.

Dr Rundi also cautioned those not interested to get involved in the development process would face problems. He thus urged parents to give their children the best education and if possible, on skills and technical education, as it was the most competitive areas of the workforce.

On politics, Dr Rundi called on the people to rally behind Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem so that he could bring in more development programmes to the state.

“His people-centric model of administration will bring more projects to the people including those in the rural areas.

“The government is concerned with the people’s well-being and that is why the MRP grant was introduced. It is thus vital that we maintain a good relationship with the government of the day,” said Rundi.
