KUCHING: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) Sarawak has been receiving threats and insults via KPDNKK Facebook page following several recent raids on outlets selling fake football jerseys and other sports apparel.

Its Sarawak chief enforcement officer, Abd Hafidz A Rahim, who revealed this yesterday, said the threats and insults were keyed in by those who commented on postings regarding the raids on the ministry’s Facebook page.

He also said it was some sort of ‘record’ for the posting to receive over 1,000 likes and over 1,000 comments; although most of the comments are negative.

“It is not nice and definitely not the Malaysian culture to issue threats and insults.

“We are just doing our job as civil servants. You can give opinion but avoid from making threats. Do it within the ambit of the law.

“I will talk more about this once we lodge a police report,” he told the media after announcing KPDNKK Sarawak’s latest raid to catch computer dealers here selling notebook computers installed with suspected pirated Microsoft operating system software.

Over the past week, the ministry raided outlets here, in Serian and Singai, Bau, that were selling fake branded sports apparel, including football jerseys of popular teams and even those of Sarawak FA.

Some of the threats received via Facebook page are said to include a threat to throw Molotov cocktail at KPDNKK Sarawak’s office.
