KAPIT: Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong who was recently bestowed the Panglima Jasa Negara (PJN) award by the Yang Di Pertuan Agong which carries the title ‘Datuk’ in conjunction with His Majesty’s birthday was given a rousing welcome by the community here upon his arrival at Kapit Wharf Terminal on Friday.

The huge crowd comprised officers from the various government agencies, community leaders, chairmen of various non-governmental organisations, members of BN component parties and members of ethnic groups.

Ugak arrived at the wharf in an express boat from Sibu at around 9.20am, accompanied by his special aide Johnny Osman. Upon arrival, Ugak was greeted with a traditional Iban welcoming ceremony.

In the 13th general election, Ugak won the Hulu Rajang parliamentary constituency with a big majority. He took over from Datuk Billy Abit Joo.

Ugak was here to chair a committee meeting in preparation for the Prime Minister’s visit to Kapit that was held at the State Office Complex. He also went to Rumah Bengau, Sungai Sut, the host longhouse for the PM’s visit, to monitor preparations for the visit.
