BINTANGOR: Longhouse chief Ravica Francis believes rural folk in Meradong constituency have lost their direction after the Opposition wrested control of their area during both the state and parliamentary elections.

Speaking at the closing of their Gawai celebration last week, she said they had not only lost development funds which the government had given them regularly, but had no sense of direction because without the Barisan Nasional (BN) government guiding them, they were like children who lost their parents.

Thus, she told the people to learn from their mistake and reminded them to vote wisely for a representative who would listen to their voices and needs during the coming state election.

“With the DAP grabbing control of our area, we have nowhere to seek help to improve our life. The opposition leaders do not come to help us in that aspect.”

On the closing of the Gawai, she called on her longhouse folk to move on with their lives.

“We have relaxed and enjoyed enough. Now, let us get serious to go back to work.”

Invited to the celebration was BN head of Sarikei parliamentary constituency, Ding Kuong Hiing.

Saying he had been close to the rural folk of Sarikei, including Meradong, he told them not to lose hope but to continue working with BN for their future.

Ding said he knew the folk in Meradong were behind BN as shown by the tremendous support to the ruling coalition during the last parliamentary election.

He said they were a people who had vision and mission.

“This type of hope and faith must continue in you, and in the coming state election, the people must again move on in such a positive direction.”
