KUALA LUMPUR: Police detained 33 gamblers, including college students from Italy, Iran, Singapore, in an early morning raid of a building in Subang Jaya, Selangor, following a tip-off from the public yesterday.

According to Oriental Daily, police seized RM29,000 cash, chips and gambling tools. They also confiscated student cards belonging to the foreign students.

A 18-member police team from Bukit Aman led by IPD PJ Tuan Tan stormed the illegal casino that was operating on the top floor of the building.

Nabbed were 31 males and two females aged between 18 and 58 years.

Out of the 33 suspects arrested, three locals and two Filipino women were believed to be staff of the ‘casino’.

“Some of the gamblers had valid student ID cards. The foreign students were from Italy, Iran and Singapore, and they are studying in our country,” said Tan.

Police said the casino had a very tight internal security system. Only regular customers with access cards could use the elevator to get to the illegal joint, which is exquisitely decorated and boasts a sound system.
