TAWAU: Firemen had to use a hydraulic cutter and spreader to free the driver from a wrecked 10-ton lorry after he was pinned inside the vehicle in an accident involving two other vehicles, namely a trailer and a Toyota pick-up truck at Mile 5, Apas Road, yesterday.

Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Razali Awang Ahmad said it took them 30 minutes to free the 23-year-old local man from the vehicle.

Mohd Razali, meanwhile, advised members of the public to refrain from attempting to move accident victims without the presence of firemen as their action could cause dire consequences to the victim, who could become paralyzed or die.
