KUCHING: The country will see a showdown between two East Malaysian muaythai boxers next month at the D1 Fighting Championship (D1FC)’s Rhino Invasion Kuala Lumpur tournament held from Aug 1-2.

During the the muaythai tournament which is scheduled to be organised at the Titiwangsa Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak’s Heendrew Lois Rekan will fight Randall Kadayum of Sabah in the 60kg weight category.

According to Malaysian muaythai and kick-boxing fans, the fight is a mouth-watering encounter between the two boxers as it is expected to showcase the talents of two of the finest boxers from East Malaysia.

Heendrew, the Lundu-born boxer sealed his status as a state muaythai living legend when he became the first ever Sarawakian to win a muaythai gold medal at the Malaysian Games (Sukma) in 2013. After his Sukma adventure, he too won many tournaments organised in the country with his latest achievement being crowned champion of the Youth Day (Hari Belia) Muaythai Tournament recently, this year.

Randall, who is from Tambunan, is no stranger to the D1FC circuit and has been competing in the championship since last year and winning the 60kg weight category twice in the circuit; once last year and once this year.

With such an achievement at the D1FC by Randall who goes by the ring name “Slayer”, newcomer Heendrew, also known by the ring name of “Cangkul Maut” is indeed going up against a very formidable opponent and a tough challenge.

Going by the ring name of “Cangkul Maut” Heendrew will represent the Lundu Muaythai Club while Randall who goes by the ring name of “Slayer” will represent the Kinabalu Muaythai Club at the D1FC.

Twelve bouts are scheduled at the Rhino Invasion Kuala Lumpur tournament next month.

Meanwhile, speaking to The Borneo Post yesterday, Heendrew commented he was unfettered by the hype surrounding the bout as he is just focused on preparing for the showdown.

“What ever it is, I have never looked down or under-estimated my opponent. He (Randall) is no different and I hope to have a good match against him come next month,” he added.

Sarawak Muaythai Association (PMNS) officials when contacted by The Borneo Post yesterday commented being Sarawakians, it was a no-brainer that they will root for Heendrew as they made no secret of their confidence in the boxer.

“I believe that Heendrew has got what it takes but then again, I believe Randall is not easy meat. He has got all that D1FC experience on his side and I am just worried that Heendrew might just have to work hard against him,” said one of the officials.

The officials nevertheless commented who ever wins the match will still do boxing fans from East Malaysia proud and wished both boxers the best of luck.
