KUCHING: Despite the current hot spell, the number of tourists coming to the state has increased eight per cent for the first four months of this year compared to the same period last year, said Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said the hot spell, which has gone on for the past one month, has seen temperatures hitting almost 40 degrees last week.

He believed the temperature will go down by August or September.

“It is hard to answer if the hot weather will affect the State’s tourism industry because some like it hot, some like it cold, depending on their taste. Tourists landing have increased but I do not have the figures for the last two months,” said Abang Johari when asked about the weather’s effects on tourism.

He said as there is no cloud seeding yet, the weather is still under control.
