BETONG: The spirit of unity in the state should be defended to keep the harmony, says Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

He said that the Betong community, made up of diverse races, had achieved sustainable development as a result of their support for the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

“Furthermore, we are expecting more structured planning in the 11th Malaysia Plan which will begin next year until 2020. In our journey to becoming a high income nation, we should prepare to ensure that the Betong community will not be left out,” Uggah said when speaking at the Hari Raya Aidilfitri visit with the villagers of Kampung Melayu Betong yesterday.

Uggah, who is also Betong MP, expressed his hope that there would be undivided support from the Betong community to his leadership and Layar assemblyman Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang.

“Datuk Patinggi Jabu wishes to apologise for not being able to attend this event, which he has never missed, due to some health issues,” he said.

Uggah announced allocations of RM5,000 for each surau and mosque in Kampung Melayu Betong amounting to RM30,000.

Present at the ceremony were Betong resident Datu Romie Sigan Daniel, Betong district officer Friday Belik, political secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister Isik Utau and political secretary to the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities Dr Richard Rapu.
