KWB postpones water regulation after stormy Sunday

KUCHING: The rain on Sunday night has brought some respite to the water supply situation in Kuching, filling up catchments areas in Sungai Sarawak Kiri.

The Kuching Water Board (KWB) has issued a statement saying that the water level had risen fairly, but the situation remains worrying.

“In view of the new development, KWB has decided to postpone the water regulation as scheduled on July 21, 2015 until further notice, pending precipitation in the catchment areas,” it said.

However, consumers were advised to continue to use water sparingly and to avoid using water to wash vehicles, water their lawns and fill pools or ponds.

Consumers are advised to visit KWB’s website at http://www.kwb.gov.my for the latest updates and to contact Kuching Water Board Call centre at 082-222333, send a text message to 019-8866650 or call JKR Kuching at 082-203497/082-203498 for assistance.

Those residing in Samarahan can contact JKR’s Samarahan office at 082-672800 or waterworks at 082-672807/082-672851. KWB said the cloud seeding request is still in progress and it is monitoring the situation very closely.
