KUCHING: The 8th Sarawak Amateur Masters Open Golf Championship will be held at Damai Golf and Country Club from Aug 21-23.

Sanctioned by Sarawak Golf Association (SGA), the three-day tournament will see over 200 golfers including those from Taiwan vying for the Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing Challenge Trophy.

Prizes valued at over RM42,000 are up for grabs in the Main Open and Invited Guest categories on top of the over RM200,000 worth of hole-in-one prizes.

About 120 golfers are expected to compete in the main event to be played on Friday and Saturday. The top 36 will play in the final round on Sunday. Tee-off is scheduled daily at 7.30 am and the Invited Guest category will be played on Aug 23.

“Damai Golf and Country Club offers a challenging layout which blends in superbly with the scenic ocean and mountain landscape. Damai is an iconic golfing venue in the state,” tournament patron Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing told a press conference held at the Riverside Majestic Hotel here yesterday.

Also present were organising chairman Dato Sri Thomas Lau and Damai Golf and Country Club general manager Zulkifli Othman.

Prizes will include a set of Fourteen TC888 with Shimada K’s 7001 shaft worth RM5,088; a set of Maruman TW Pro with Shimada K’s 7001 shaft worth RM3,805.40; a set of XX10 8 NSPRO worth RM5,088 and one unit Voltio II Gold Driver worth RM4,000.

On the final day, hole-in-one achievers stand to win prizes worth over RM200,000 including a Harley Davidson XL883N Iron (883 cc) worth RM80,000; Ducati Multistrada (1,198 cc) worth RM110,000; a Tag Heuer watch worth RM11,700 and a Frederick Constant Geneve watch worth RM11,900.

Damai Beach Resort is offering special room rate for all participants (excluding breakfast) including a free late checkout (3pm) on Aug 23 and free daily shuttle return transfer to the golf club.

Entry fee for the Open event is set at RM300 per person (inclusive of buggy fees). Closing date for entries is on Aug 11 at 5pm.
