MIRI: Palliative Care Association of Miri (PCAM) will commemorate its 10th anniversary with a ‘Run for Love’ event to be held at Piasau Boat Club from 6am onwards on Oct 11.

“Since its inception in 2005, Palliative Care Home Programme had helped relieve patients living in and around Miri of pain, stress and other debilitating illnesses.

“We hope the charity run to promote and spread awareness among the public will see more people in the run for a good cause,” organising chairman Richard Wong told a press conference yesterday.

Wong said they targeted more than 500 participants. The categories are Group A Men’s Open, Group B Women’s Open, Group C Boys’ Junior and Group D Girls’ Junior. All the categories are open to the public with Group A and B for 18 years old and above; and Group C and D for 12 to 17 years old. Participants can choose to run 5km or 10km.

The registration fee is RM50 each and all registered participants are entitled to a t-shirt each if registered by Sept 1. Thereafter, each will be given a sun cap.

Those who complete the run are entitled to a finisher medal. Entry forms can be downloaded from the PCAM webpage http://www.palliativecaremiri.org/. Hard copies of entry forms/ cards are also available at the Palliative Care Centre and Clinic Sim, Miri. Registration is from Aug 1 to 31 and participants should register before the closing day on Sept 1, 2015 at 12 noon.

Wong said as a non-profit organisation, PCAM needed public support for all its activities such as to pay the rental for the daycare centre, utilities and other expenses; purchase disposable consumable medical items and medical equipment as well as pay for the training and salaries of three full time nurses.

“At present, we have three qualified nurses carrying out weekly home visits for approximately 50 patients. The services provided are free and medical equipment is on loan to patients where necessary. We need all the financial support for assistance to be given to the people who need it the most.” For further enquiries, contact Richard Wong at 013-830 3827 or Vivian Sheila at 012-877 1027.
