SIBU: A woman lodged a police report after she feared a thief arrested for stealing in her house at Bukit Penyau had returned to seek vengeance by hurling a Molotov cocktail into her house compound last Friday.

The 26-year-old woman had returned home at 5.30pm to find a portion of her front house blackened by smoke.

She found shattered glasses and a piece of red cloth on the floor.

She said before the arson, the police had arrested the thief on July 11 in her house and her husband had identified him at a parade in the police station.

They feared the thief had returned to burn their house after his release.

The theft on July 11 occurred when her husband saw a few men trying to enter at 2.30am by prising their kitchen window.

The intruders saw him and fled.

More than half an hour later, the woman and her husband saw from their bedroom window a man standing outside armed with a parang.

They heard noises in their house, but, they did not dare to check.

The owner called the police and the thief was arrested.

The owner said the thief had broken into his house by taking down a kitchen window.

The couple lost cash, a camera and other valuables, worth a total of RM13,800.

The couple believe more than one thief had entered their house in the July 11 house-breaking theft.
