KUCHING: Aspiring musicians from throughout the city competed in the third Euroasia Violin Competition (EVC) Kuching regional round held at Merdeka Palace yesterday.

Some 40 participants played their hearts out in the Open and Young Artist categories in hopes to win a spot in the finals.

According to Euroasia president Angel Lee, the competition aims to provide a platform for young musicians to expose themselves to music competitions on the international stage.

“The event’s two categories are open to all nationalities and is aimed at celebrating musical achievements at the regional level,” said Lee.

“With the first two rounds held in Johor Bahru on July 4 and Kuantan on July 12, we will move to Penang on Aug 2, followed by Kuala Lumpur on Aug 8.

“The final round of the Young Artist category will be held on Aug 23 in Seremban,” she said.

The jury at yesterday’s event consisted of Euroasia principle conductor and head of jury Mustafa Fuzer Nawi, Trinity College London music examiner Lim U-Jin and Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ADRSM) representative Ryan Lewis.
