BAU: The Democratic Action Party (DAP) Mambong has formed a new unit in Kampung Tringgus.

It is headed by Phillip Juwing Jakang, who was elected by fellow villagers, along with 10 committee members.

A press statement from DAP Mambong secretary Sanjan Daik said the new unit was launched by Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei on July 19.

“I urge all the villagers, especially the youths who are already 21 years old, to register as voters so that we can have a stronger voice,” said Sanjan.

He pointed out the villagers’ dissatisfaction with the gravity-feed water supply installed in 1980, which is now unable to cater to the growing population.

“The government has built a huge water reservoir on the top of the hill near the village, and it has been two years after its completion but till today, we have yet to use it. We do not know when the government will supply water to our houses,” said Phillip.

Villagers also highlighted their request to build a suspension bridge over a river to the village’s burial site.

“Once the undertakers were almost swept away together with the coffin while crossing the river due to the strong currents during a flood,” claimed a villager.

Kampung Tringgus is home to more than 1,000 residents from 300 households.
