SHAH ALAM: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has declined to state officially whether it supports PAS or Gerakan Harapan Baharu (GHB) in the Pakatan Rakyat coalition in Selangor. PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali instead stressed that the party was prepared to cooperate with any quarters including political parties and non-governmental organisations in strengthening the opposition coalition.

“Why is there a need to focus on PAS and GHB? We have other progressive groups such as Ikram (Pertubuhan Ikram Malaysia), DAP, ABIM (Malaysia Islamic Youth Movement) and Bersih (Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections). “I support all Malaysians who love justice and efforts for reformation,” he told reporters after attending an Aidilfitri event organised by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), here yesterday.

Mohamed Azmin, who is also Selangor Menteri Besar, was asked by reporters on his stand and support for PAS and GHB in the Pakatan Rakyat coalition in the state. This followed the recent announcement by former PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu on the formation of GHB comprising PAS senior leaders who lost in the party elections last month.

GHB, which has applied for registration as a political party, is seen as replacing PAS in the opposition coalition after DAP and PAS decided to sever ties. The third ally in Pakatan Rakyat is PKR. — Bernama
