SHAH ALAM: Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB) should not try to split the votes for Pakatan Rakyat (PR) in the next Sarawak state election if it is sincere in wanting to strengthen the opposition in this country.

PAS vice-president Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad said GHB’s plan to field its candidates in the Sarawak state election was seen as trying to “disturb” the votes for PR compared to that for Barisan Nasional (BN).

“If GHB is truly sincere about its political agenda, it should focus more on drawing away the BN voters and the fence-sitters and not PR’s.

“We (GHB and PR) are facing BN and in my opinion, we should not be splitting votes for the opposition,” Iskandar told reporters when met at the Selangor PAS Aidifitri celebration, here, Thursday night.

He was asked to comment on a statement by Sarawak GHB that it was prepared to field candidates in the coming state election.
