SIBU: The Dayaks are urged to remain united in order to realise the ‘One Dayak’ dream and also for their continued progress and development.

Assistant Minister of Public Utilities Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi said his dream to see the Dayak community as ‘One Dayak’ could only be realised through their strong unity.

“Once we have the strength through the ‘One Dayak’ spirit, we can realise our visions such as producing more graduates from among our community in order to produce more professionals in the various fields,” he said at the opening ceremony of the Borneo Dayak Cultural Festival 2015 at the Sibu Town Square here Friday evening.

Chairman of the Borneo Dayak Cultural Festival 2015 Councillor Paulus Dandee was also present.

“As we work towards realising our ‘One Dayak’ vision, we should uphold the spirit of unity by working closely with the other races in line with the 1Malaysian concept,” he said.

Dr Rundi added that education was also a factor to allow the Dayaks to achieve success in life and to be on par with other races.

Meanwhile, one of the event held yesterday morning was a blowpipe contest which attracted participants from the various races here and from as far as Kuching, Bau and Kota Samarahan. It was earlier declared open by a political secretary to the chief minister, Maurice Giri.
