KUCHING: UCSI University Sarawak Campus will hold its first ever ‘Science and Maths Quiz’ in conjunction with its open day on Aug 8 and 9 from 9am to 4pm daily.
The quiz, which is open to secondary students in Kuching, will see 96 students from 17 schools take part. It will be conducted in three rounds in which the preliminary round will qualify students to the semi-finals while four outstanding teams will proceed to the finals within the same day.
Quiz champion will receive a RM30,000 bursary and RM1,000 cash; first runner-up — RM15,000 bursary and RM500 cash; and second runner-up — RM9,000 bursary and RM300 cash.
Apart from the quiz, a mini workshop on ‘Multiple Intelligences’ will be held for school teachers so they can spend a fruitful time at the University. It will be conducted by in-house trainer Agnes Mary Toner.
UCSI University Sarawak Campus houses the Faculty of Hospitality Management (FHTM) and the Centre for Pre U Studies (CPU).
The Faculty of Hospitality Management (FHTM) offers three degree programmes: BA (Hons) in Commerce, BA (Hons) in Event and Tourism Management, and BA (Hons) in Hospitality Management. FHTM also offers three diploma programmes, namely, Diploma in Hotel Management, Diploma in Culinary Arts, and Diploma in Leisure Management.
Students who wish to further their studies in Medicine and Health Sciences, Pharmacy, Architecture, Engineering, Social Sciences and Applied Science programmes can go into Foundation Studies in both Arts and Science offered by the Centre for Pre U Studies (CPU) of Sarawak Campus.
The University is giving out over RM18 million worth of scholarships and bursaries as rewards for students who excel in examinations.
Scholarships provided by the university annually include Tan Sri Ahmad Razali Merit Scholarship Award, UCSI University Trust Scholarship, UCSI University Trust Pre-U Scholarship, and UCSI University Trust Sports Bursary.
Registration for September 2015 intake is now in progress, and applicants are reminded to bring their academic transcripts or results slip.
