SIBU: Voters in Tamin state constituency have been urged to support the candidate selected by Barisan Nasional (BN) to replace incumbent Datuk Joseph Mauh in the next state election.

The call was made by Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Tamin vice-chairman Councillor Andrewson Ngalai who said there are several PRS members aspiring to replace Muah who has decided not to defend his seat.

“This is for the good of the party struggle and BN in Tamin. Let us all work together for the betterment of the party and people,” he said yesterday.

Andrewson added party president Tan Sri Datuk Amar James Jemut Masing would assess the aspiring candidates and appealed to those not selected to rally behind the one chosen to defend the seat for BN.

PRS Tamin publicity chief Tuai Rumah Awang Juing meanwhile said PRS Tamin main committee and women and youth wings would hold a discussion on the selection of candidate for Tamin soon.

“The meeting will be chaired by PRS Tamin chairman Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department,” he added.

PRS Tamin Youth chief Kusa Buan, representing PRS Tamin thanked Mauh for his service to the people as their assemblyman.

“He is a people-oriented assemblyman and did his level best to bring about development to Tamin.

“We (PRS Tamin) respect his decision to pave way for the younger generation to continue his excellent service for the Tamin folk,” Kusa said.

Mauh had been in politics for the past 25 years and was Selangau MP for three terms from 1990 before he was replaced by Entulu in 2004 general election.

He then contested in the 9th state election in 2006 for the Tamin seat and won against Augustine Liom from the now defunct SNAP by a majority of 2,377 votes.

In the 10th state election in 2011, Mauh garnered 4,998 votes to win with a 1,292-vote majority against PKR Mengga Mikui, who polled 3,706 votes.
