BINTULU: The use of 12 four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicles will facilitate an ongoing health programme slated for more than 200 people at a Penan settlement in Lusong Laku, Belaga.

Bintulu Health Department officer Dr Azlee Ayub said the 4WDs would help in transporting some 100 volunteers from here, Sarikei and Kapit to Lusong Laku – and back.

“They comprise personnel from the state Health Department as well as members of various NGOs (non-governmental organisations).

“Our programme aims to provide rural folk with health services that are on par with those available in the urban areas,” he told reporters

after flagging off the convoy from Bintulu Health Clinic on Friday.

The community programme – organised by Kapit Health Office in cooperation with Bintulu Health Office, Bintulu Hospital, state Health Department, and NGOs from here, Sarikei and Kapit – is under the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS).

The one here will run till Aug 10, which will include free health checks, health-related activities, exhibitions, sports and exchange of cultures.
