KUCHING: Prison inmates should take up skills and knowledge programmes offered by the Prisons Department to prepare them for a new life upon their release, said Yang Di-Pertua Negeri’s wife Toh Puan Dato’ Sri Ragad Kurdi Taib.

She also advised them to attend the counselling service provided and improve their religious knowledge as preparation to face challenges when they return to society.

“All advices given by the prison must be used as a guideline to plan your future and to change for the better and not to make the same mistakes,” said Ragad at the ‘Majlis Jalinan Kasih Aidilfitri’ with female prisoners at the Jalan Puncak Borneo prison yesterday.

The prison has a Vocational and Industry Unit offering four courses like laundry, sewing, agriculture and frozen and pastry services.

At the event, Ragad presented donations of a TV, cake mixer and noodle processing machine to the frozen and pastry workshop at the prison.

Apart from that, she presented 18 female and 14 male inmates with hampers in the form of towel, personal care and snacks.
